POSITION GOAL: To assist in maintaining clean, safe, natural parks experience for visitors by performing varied grounds and facilities maintenance tasks.

This is a seasonal position. 

Compensation:  $12.00 per hour.  Employer and employee contribute to Public Employees Retirement System.

Experience: No prior work experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•Must be 16 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

•Some knowledge of the following:

o basic home maintenance safety procedures.

o basic home and yard maintenance activities and procedures.

o basic knowledge of the proper operating procedures for home and garden equipment.

•Ability to communicate well with others.

•Able to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions.

•Able to use logical and creative thought processes to solve problems.

•Willingness to support Metroparks mission, operating principles, goals and objectives. 

•Ability to get along well with others and work as a part of a team.

•Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with speed and accuracy under the pressure of deadlines.

•Basic knowledge of operating computer equipment and utilizing e-mail communication preferred.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

•Work schedule:  Up to 40 hours per week; will require one weekend day per week, some evenings and holidays.

•Term of employment varies from March through December based on need.

•Requires regular lifting up to 40 lb. and occasional lifting up to 60 lb.; will work mostly outdoors in most weather conditions.

•May require business use of personal vehicle.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Assist in maintaining grounds; mow, weed, water, pruning, planting, trail work.

•Assist staff with performing the following as needed with training provided:

   oPainting and staining

   oBasic carpentry duties

   oBuilding maintenance and minor repairs

   oSkilled trade projects

•Perform various cleaning and maintenance duties including cleaning restrooms, picking up litter and trash removal.

•Safely drive park on-road and off-road vehicles between work assignments on park trails and roadways; exhibit proper regard for avoiding damage to vehicles and resources. No driving outside the immediate area of the park.

•Operate equipment with supervision; exhibit proper care and maintenance of equipment.

•Comply with all safety rules and regulations.

•Set up and clean up for special events.

•Keep supervisor or designee fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, present and potential work problems.

•Suggest improvements for work processes and procedures.

•Attend trainings, meetings, and workshops to learn new skills and keep up to date on Metropark communication.

•Respond to customer questions, comments and suggestions in a courteous and timely manner.

•Maintain proper work appearance.

•Use MS Outlook to send and receive email communication.

•Other Park District duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:  Service and utility vehicles, mowers, power and hand tools, safety equipment; on-road and off-road vehicles including large and small trucks, and golf carts.
