POSITION GOAL: Serve as law enforcement officer to assure the public’s safety, protection and enjoyment. Assist in minor maintenance functions to keep the park clean and safe.

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, Regular, Non-exempt, Full time

COMPENSATiON: $22.00 - $32.593 based on experience. Employer and employee contribute to Public Employees Retirement System.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Alternates to the following position requirements may be made as Metroparks finds appropriate and acceptable.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Certified Peace officer in the State of Ohio.

Experience: Some experience comparable to duties and responsibilities. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

•Customer service skills

•In-depth interpersonal skills; demonstrated sensitivity and empathy.

•Oral communication skills and presentation skills.

•Broad, general understanding of natural resources and environment.

•Demonstrated ability to work without supervision.

•Must be certified in First Aid/CPR and AED.

•Computer skills including word processing and data entry.

•Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

•Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

•Work schedule: 40 hour workweek includes weekends, holidays and evenings.

•Regularly assigned to one of the Metroparks in Lucas County but may work in any Metropark.

•Requires physical agility to perform law enforcement duties and minor maintenance.

REPORTS TO: Chief of Rangers or Patrol Supervisor

DIRECT REPORTS: None

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Serve as Law Enforcement Officer; monitor radio dispatches, operate MDT, patrol the park, respond to public’s questions, issue citations and 

•Prepare all related paperwork for Your Clean, Safe, Natural Metroparks, court appearances, protect crime scene and evidence, transport prisoners. 

•Serve as the first responder to accidents.

•Open and close parks; lock and alarm all buildings.

•Patrol properties adjacent to the Park.

•Assist other law enforcement agencies.

•Assist Park visitors with lockouts, lost children, respond to traffic and other emergencies.

•Assist with river rescues.

•Answer visitors’ questions and assist as needed.

•Respond to animal and wildlife calls; enforce wildlife regulations to ensure protection of wildlife.

•Attend various police training programs to maintain updated knowledge and skills.

•Represent Park District in court as required.

•Perform traffic control functions; run radar.

•Assist with cleaning facilities, picking up liter, removing trash.

•Maintain vehicles; perform preventative maintenance, and make repairs.

•Maintain personal patrol record log.

•Provide training and work direction to seasonal employees as required.

•Assist with storm clean-up activities, landscaping and forestry activities; tree trimming, pruning, planting, etc. 

•Perform first aid and operate AED.

•Assist with maintenance, mechanical projects and construction projects (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, painting, etc.).

•Purchase supplies as required.

•Operate power tools.

•Operate and heavy equipment; backhoe, dump truck tractors, etc. as needed.

•Perform snow removal and ice removal as needed.

•Perform land management/natural resources functions.

•Conduct safety programs for schools and represent Park District to various community organizations.

•Assist with Metropark programs as needed.

•Promote compliance with all safety regulations.

•Providing staff assistance as needed.

•Direct the work of Metroparks and volunteer staff as needed.

•Other Park District work related duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED: Police radios, cell phones, computers; chain saws, power tools, Tasers, OC spray, firearms and other patrol equipment, park vehicles, and heavy equipment such as; skid steer, snow plows, dump trucks, tractors.
