POSITION GOAL: To provide a clean, safe, and natural park experience for visitors by performing varied building and grounds maintenance tasks and assisting full-time staff on skilled trade projects.
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly - Seasonal - Nonexempt
COMPENSATION: $12.00 per hour. Employer and employee contribute to Public Employees Retirement System.
MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Alternates to the following position requirements may be made as Metroparks finds appropriate and acceptable.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: No prior work experience required.

• Some knowledge of the proper operating procedures for home and garden equipment.
• Ability to communicate well with others.
• Able to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions.
• Able to use logical and creative thought processes to solve problems.
• Willingness to support Metroparks mission, operating principles, goals and objectives.
• Ability to get along well with others and work as a part of a team.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
• Work schedule: Up to 40 hours per week; will require one weekend day per week, some evenings and holidays.
• Term of employment varies from March through December based on need.
• Requires regular lifting up to 40 lb. and occasional lifting up to 60 lb.; will work mostly outdoors in most weather conditions.
• May require business use of personal vehicle.
• Work locations: Glass City, Pearson, Wildwood, Secor, Providence, Farnsworth, Side Cut, Oak Openings, Blue Creek or Swan Creek Metroparks.
REPORTS TO: Park Services Supervisor, Park Services Assistant Supervisor or Park Services Crew Leader
DIRECT REPORTS: None
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain grounds; mow, weed, water, pruning, planting, trail work.
• Painting and staining.
• Perform various cleaning and maintenance duties including cleaning restrooms, picking up litter and trash removal.
• Perform various basic carpentry duties.
• Perform routine building maintenance and minor repairs.
• Assist staff professional with skilled trade projects.
• Purchase materials with supervisor approval.
• Safely drive park on-road and off-road vehicles between work assignments on park trails and roadways; exhibit proper regard for avoiding damage to vehicles and resources.
• Operate equipment with supervision; exhibit proper care and maintenance of equipment.
• Apply pesticides and herbicides under the supervision of a licensed applicator.
• Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
• Set up and clean up for special events.
• Guide new employees in similar types of positions on the performance of certain tasks by demonstration and providing information.
• Keep supervisor or designee fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, present and potential work problems.
• Suggest improvements for work processes and procedures.
• Attend trainings, meetings, and workshops to learn new skills and keep up to date on Metropark communication.
• Respond to customer questions, comments and suggestion in a courteous and timely manner.
• Maintain proper work appearance.
• As needed, may be required to assist with park concessions, such as assisting park visitors in renting and using pedal boats on a small lake; opening and closing concession area; preparing and securing boats; handling cash and receipts; selling tickets or other activities.

• Other Park District duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED: Service and utility vehicles, mowers, power and hand tools, safety equipment; on-road and off-road vehicles including large and small trucks, golf carts and ATVs.
